Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League has welcomed Dennis McCloskey as a new Life Member.

Dennis received the prestigious award for almost four decades’ involvement with Confraternity Carnival.

He attended his first carnival in 1986 with All Souls St Gabriel’s School before moving into an array of roles in his time in Charters Towers and then at Ignatius Park College, Townsville.

Dennis was twice a Carnival convenor – in 1997 and 2013 – and helped support that role in 2024.

He coached and managed the Confraternity Carnival teams at All Souls St Gabriel’s School and Ignatius Park College.

He was also a selector for QISSRL merit teams.

Dennis is the 17th person awarded QISSRL Life Membership.

QISSRL President Peter Elmore congratulated Dennis on the award.

“Life Membership recognises those who have made a significant contribution and there are few people who have filled the same number of roles as Dennis,” Mr Elmore said.

“He has given great service to his schools and to the carnival and the award is a recognition of that service.”

Life Members must have completed at least a decade of involvement with QISSRL as an executive member, selector, referee or in other roles deemed suitable for the award by the management committee.
